The ultra-dramatic trailer for Five, from a talented quintet of females, spares no emotional note. There are tears, dramatic music, and angry guitar smashing — but, also, from the looks of it, some truly phenomenal acting.
The movie, premiering on Lifetime Oct. 10, is a series of five short films with some very famous names attached. Jennifer Aniston, Alicia Keys, Demi Moore, Penelope Spheeris (director of Wayne’s World) and Patty Jenkins (writer of 2003′s Academy Award-winning Monster) all directed segments of the film, each of which tells a different story relating to breast cancer. Former Big Love star Jeanne Tripplehorn plays an oncologist and acts as the common thread in five parts.
But though anchored by Tripplehorn, the trailer does a great job highlighting the breadth of talent in the film, from Rosario Dawson and Ginnifer Goodwin, to Bob Newhart and Patricia Clarkson. Jeffrey Tambor, whom I know best for his comedic acting, particularly stands out to me as someone whose performance I’m looking forward to seeing. I’m not sure how big of a part he plays in the movie, but his seconds-long appearance in the promo was inexplicably haunting. On a less serious note, was that Josh Holloway I saw picking up a little girl and placing her lovingly in his lap? Hot man + sweet scenes with a mini human = must watch.
