In July, Tina Fey confessed regret about turning down the opportunity to step behind the camera for the sequel to her hit 2004 teen comedy, Mean Girls.
But after watching this trailer, we suspect she’ll get over it.
Desperate Housewives star Maiara Walsh, Nicole Gale Anderson, Jennifer Stone and Meaghan Jette Martin are among the cast for the new Mean Girls, which centers on two girls facing off against popular high-schoolers “The Plastics.” Former SNL comic Tim Meadows drops in for a supporting role — but we won’t be seeing any cameos by original Mean Girls stars, like Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried, or Rachel McAdams.
Fey, who wrote and starred in the original, told Movieline that she declined offers from Paramount to make the sequel.
“It’s funny, because now it’s shooting and I don’t really have anything to do with it,” the award-winning Funny Lady said at the time. “I haven’t read it or anything like that. Paramount was very generous and solicitous with me for several years, saying, ‘Would you like to do it?’ And at the time, I was like, ‘They should just let it be what it is!’ Now, its like, why not just do it? I should have done it, because now it’s happening anyway!”
Mean Girls 2 will head straight-to-DVD shelves in Feb. 2011.
