Another “Real Housewife” has gone broke — (Damn, how much are they paying you guys over at Bravo?!) — and you won’t believe the beloved actor she’s blaming for her depleted finances.
Socialite Sonja Morgan, who joined the cast of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of New York City last season, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the Big Apple Wednesday, The Wall Street Journal reports.
She says she’s approximately $19.9 million in debt. In a celebrity twist, Morgan — who was pinched for DWI in June — accuses Grease star John Travolta of contributing to her mounting money woes after his diva demands torpedoed a joint film venture between her production company, Sonja Productions, and third party Hannibal Pictures. Travolta attached so many to conditions to his contract for the lead role in Fast Flash to Bang Time that the venture never got off the ground, Sonja claims in the court filing. Hannibal later won a $7 million court judgment from Sonja Productions when the project went up in smoke.
“The decision to seek bankruptcy relief was not an easy one, but unfortunately, I am at a crossroads in my life,” says Morgan, who is nearly $20 million in debt and “only” has $13.5 million in assets.
Sonja joins a long line of Bravo reality stars who have trouble balancing their checkbooks. Atlanta “Housewife” Nene Leakes was allegedly (Insert side-eye here…) evicted from a Georgia rental house in late 2008. Earlier this year, Teresa Guidice — one of the stars of The Real Housewives of New Jersey — filed for bankruptcy after falling nearly $9 million in debt.
