Teen Mom’s Amber Portwood is under investigation by police in Anderson, Indiana after the world watched in horror as the portly young mother plummed soft-spoken sap Gary Shirley, her longtime beau and father of her young daughter Leah, on last week’s explosive episode.
But in an interview with RadarOnline.com, Amber’s dad, Shawn Portwood, says the couple have been in counseling for several months in hopes of helping the “Teen Mom” manage the anger issues that caused her to violently attack Gary. (We’re still confused as to why Amber is not eating a ham & cheese sandwich over in the County Jail. But we digress…)
The young lovers still plan to eventually wed….If Gary intends on spending eternity with this woman, he might want to invest in a helmet and a sturdy pair of shoulder pads…We’ve got a feeling he’s going to need them.
(Note To Gary: Move Yourself and Your Baby Far Away From This Dangerous Girl NOW!! We hear Florida is lovely this time of year.)
“It’s my understanding they’re doing just fine,” Shawn said. “They’re going to couples counseling….You know, this happened months ago… and things have changed a lot since then and they’re doing something about it, especially after that,” he explained. “But that was then, this is now. They’ve been doing this counseling for a little while now. From what I understand they’ve been at it a few months since that’s been filmed, not aired… since that’s been filmed back a few months ago — maybe more — they’ve been taking care of it, trying to stay together for the baby.”
Shawn had choicer words for the network that turned Amber and Gary into reality stars.
“It surprised me that it was even on TV and it was shown on TV. I don’t even think it should’ve been shown on TV, to be honest with you. I think that MTV should’ve used better judgment, that’s all I’ve got to say,” he remarked curtly.
“I think we all go through our troubles and we all have our idiosyncrasies,” the elder Portwood said of his daughter’s outburst. “It’s just something that happens. It’s not a normal thing… I don’t believe it’s a normal thing for Amber to do what she did. I haven’t seen it hardly at all.”
Department of Child Protective Services in The Portwoods’ hometown are also looking into the incident, but Shawn insists baby Leah is safe and in the custody of her parents — at least for now.
“….Leah is well taken care of, and they’re doing something about it and that’s the thing. And the investigation… of course they have to check into it. It’s they’re job. But, I mean, like I said she’s taken care of, they’re good parents, they really are.”
