A Garth Brooks ballad is the inspiration behind a new Lifetime Original Movie.
The female-friendly cable network has greenlit an original movie called Unanswered Prayers, based on the popular Garth Brooks song of the same name. The single — which Brooks composed with Larry B. Bastian and Pat Alger — reached No. 1 on the country charts when it was released in 1990.
Unanswered Prayers: The Movie — starring former Without a Trace star Eric Close, Madchen Amick, and Samantha Mathis – will explore the themes of marriage, family, community and second chances with love, the network said in a synopsis Monday. Close will star as the husband who’s torn between his wife (Mathis) and what could have been with his high school crush (Amick), who suddenly arrives back in town.
“Through his music, Garth Brooks is one of the greatest American storytellers ever, and we couldn’t be more excited to be working with him on adapting ‘Unanswered Prayers’ into a major original movie,” Tanya Lopez, Senior Vice-President of Original Movies for the Lifetime Network, told reporters this week. “There’s a reason Garth is one of the top-selling recording artists of all-time — among the likes of The Beatles and Elvis Presley — and the huge popularity of ‘Unanswered Prayers’ is proof his work touches so many people.”
Produced by Sony Pictures Television, the film will go into production in the Richmond, Virginia area later this month.
Unanswered Prayers premieres in November.
