Twenty years after Rob “Vanilla Ice” Van Winkle struck gold with his catchy rap classic, “Ice Ice Baby,” the former hip-hopster is basking in the spotlight once more.

On Tuesday, The Do-It-Yourself Network (DIY) announced that it is placing an order for a second season of The Vanilla Ice Project, a home makeover series hosted by The Ice Man…er…we mean Rob.

The first season of the 10-episode series premiered Oct. 14 and follows Van Winkle as he attempts to renovate a six-bedroom, five-bathroom, 7,000 square-foot lakefront home in Palm Beach, Florida. It’s a buisness Rob knows well, believe it or not. In the years since his early ’90s fame eclipsed, the musician has depended on his creativity to keep him afloat financially. He’s turned his hobby of buying land and flipping houses into a lucrative career.

“I think the process of transforming something from grime to shine influences me,” Van Winkle first said about The Vanilla Ice Project. “This house was in need of a major upgrade and my proudest moment will be when this house is revealed.”

He’s renovated old homes and foreclosures and taught himself the basics through hands-on experience and research.

“Rob’s home-improvement knowledge has been an unexpected surprise for many of our viewers,” DIY execs say. “He not only has skills important to DIY Network, Rob resonates with our audience. We are thrilled to continue working with him.”

The first season finale of The Vanilla Ice Project airs Dec.16. The show airs Thursdays @ 9 PM ET and is expected to return for Season 2 in 2011.
