5 movie franchises that would have worked better as TV Shows

These days, it seems like the most popular thing to do on TV is take a successful movie franchise and turn it into a series.

In fact, so many popular movies are being adapted into TV shows lately that we have to wonder why people are even bothering to launch film franchises in the first place instead of going for the meatier storytelling option presented by TV — besides the oodles and oodles of money, of course.

Don’t get us wrong, movies are great, but there have been quite a few franchises over the years that we thought would have made much better TV shows instead.

‘Harry Potter’

The problem with the “Harry Potter” movies was that they all too often left out key material from the books in favor of unnecessary action sequences (looking at you, Weasley house-burning scene) to make it more blockbuster-worthy. If each year at Hogwarts got a full season of TV, we’d have gotten a much more faithful adaptation of the novels.

‘Justice League’

The upcoming “Justice League” movie — spawned from the current “Superman” franchise — practically already exists on TV when you look at the CW’s impressive superhero lineup, and we almost wish DC had just left well enough alone. We’d much rather watch this year’s four-part CW crossover than a three-,hour “Justice League” movie.

‘Percy Jackson & the Olympians’

The “Percy Jackson” film franchise never really took off in the way Hollywood probably expected it to, which is a shame since the book series is rife with adaptable material. Greek and Roman mythology mixed with super-powered teenagers sounds like just the ticket for a winning TV series, if you ask us.

‘The Hunger Games’

No one can deny that “The Hunger Games” saga made bank at the box office, but most of those movies either felt way too rushed or ridiculously boring. We would have loved to focus more on the citizen’s uprising in the Districts than watching Katniss twiddle her thumbs for the entirety of “Mockingjay Part 1,” which would have been way easier to do in a 22-episode season than a two-hour movie.

‘Tomb Raider’

Instead of yet another reboot, we actually would have liked to see a TV version of Lara Croft raiding tombs and fighting bad guys. We could watch Lara live her lavish lifestyle (complete with swords and gunfights) for years, and TV is definitely the place to go these days for kick-butt female leads,
