On Sunday the Strategic Forces Command personnel made the third consecutive success within a couple of days where the nuclear-capable surface-to-surface Agni-I missile was successfully flight-tested at a range of 700 km from the Wheeler’s Island at the Orissa coast.

According to Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) officials, the test has met all the objectives of the mission and was among the best-ever launches.

The missile that was blasted off at 1.07 hrs by a mobile launcher was tracked by each of the radars along the coast side as well as two ships as it splattered down targeting the pre-designated position at the Bay of Bengal precisely and accurately after a 500-second flight.

The Scientific Adviser to Defence Minister and Director-General, DRDO, V.K. Saraswat, Director, Advanced Systems Laboratory (ASL), Avinash Chander, Director, Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), P.Venugopalan and many other top DRDO scientists witnessed the event.

The Agni-I is 14-metre tall single-staged solid propelled weapon system that has a diameter of one meter and has the capability to carry the load of around 1,000 kg.

The ship-launched Dhanush as well as surface-to-surface Prithvi-II were successfully test-fired on Saturday in salvo mode from two different locations off the Orissa coast.
