Idol’s latest fallen singer had a feeling this wasn’t going to be his night.
“This whole week, it was basically God giving me a sign so that I could be prepared,” said 19-year-old New Orleans native Burnell Taylor.
Although he had the opportunity to redeem himself, he said he knew the judges wouldn’t go for the save. Nonetheless, he sang his heart out in his final song, India.Arie’s “Ready for Love.” And what about that kiss with rumored crush Amber Holcomb?
“I wanted to keep it PG-13. I’ve said it once before — a crush only involves one person, so it ain’t a crush,” said Taylor.
Judge Nicki Minaj was especially sad to see Taylor go, sharing tears and advice with him. His plans are unclear at the moment, but he has made the most of the experience and will continue to explore the options that his music career has to offer.
“I want to do so much. I say by the time I’m 25 I better have at least six Grammys. If I gotta be on Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, Animal Planet…. I’m doing everything I can do to keep my name high. I would love to work with Frank Ocean, Brandy, India.Arie, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Bruno Mars…. anybody that’s looking for a brother, because I’m coming home.”
Burnell was diplomatic about the surprising Top 3 (including the lyrics-forgetting Lazaro Arbos), saying the show is unpredictable and nobody in the Top 7 had any expectations.
“This show was just a platform for me. Now it’s time for me to take what I learned from the show, and build on top of it. We’re all going to be somebody if we take this experience and run with it. So that was just my message.”
For now he is excited to go home and work out — taking with him the physical, mental and emotional changes he has experienced on Idol. Oh and he is also taking that sweet white leather jacket.
