Is CNN’s Silver Fox daytime’s next divo?
Cooper, host of the cable news network’s Anderson Cooper 360, is close to inking a deal to front a syndicated daytime talk show that would kick off next fall, The Hollywood Reporter said on Thursday.
Here the skinny: Andy — a regular fill-in for 76-year-old Regis Philbin on ABC’s Live! with Regis & Kelly — is “deep in talks” with Telepictures Productions and Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution for a proposed series that would feature the normally hard-hitting journalist having his say on a myriad of pop culture issues. The as-yet-titled show is billed as a topical format that will cover everything from celebrities to world affairs, but would also show off Cooper’s skill with news stories.
News of the reported deal already has Cooper drawing comparisons to another silver-haired TV star — Phil Donahue, who hosted morning series and radio programs before becoming a daytime talk show legend in the 1980s.
