The Queen of Soul? More like the Queen of Sole! Slimmed-down music icon Aretha Franklin, who overcame a life-threatening (albeit undisclosed) illness earlier this year, found herself in the emergency room of Community North Hospital this month after suffering a close encounter of the stylish kind.
While at her Dallas hotel, the Grammy winner accidentally stumbled over a pile of shoes, and winced in pain as her left index toe landed atop the spiked heel of one of her Jimmy Choos. A x-ray later revealed that Ms. Ree had suffered a fracture. They don’t call ‘em killer stilettos for nothin’. The injury “hurt like heck for a minute,” but quickly subsided, Franklin says.
“I’m so grateful it wasn’t my right piano peddle foot, I have a gig on July 27 at the Jones Beach Theatre in New York!” joked the “Respect” singer, whose toe and foot remain wrapped with bandages. “How am I supposed to match my new Marc Jacobs gown with this wooden blue hospital shoe?”
After a nine month break from the stage, Aretha, 69, is currently touring in support of new album, A Woman Falling Out of Love.
