Two-time Grammy Award-winning musician Ben Harper filed legal documents to end his five-year marriage to Rambling Rose and Jurassic Park star Laura Dern on Friday, it has emerged.
Harper reportedly cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for his split from the actress and claims that the couple have been separated since Jan. 2010. Friends of the soon-to-be exes tell a different story. TMZ claims to have spoken with a source close to the couple who says the pair has been “living and traveling together throughout the year and were even intimate as recently as last week.”
Ben is asking a Los Angeles judge to deny Laura spousal support. He also wants joint legal and physical custody of their two children — Ellery, 9, and Jaya, 5.
Ben and Laura wed in Los Angeles in 2005 after meeting at one of Harper’s concerts five years earlier. At the time, the “Stealing Kisses” star was separated from his wife of four years, who he divorced in 2001.
Harper and his newly-formed band Fistful of Mercy, which includes Dhani Harrison and Joseph Arthur, released their debut album, As I Call You Down, on Oct. 5. Dern most recently starred in the latest installment of the Meet the Parents franchise, Little Fockers, hitting theaters in December.
