SATC Stans, Be Still! There’s a new Carrie Bradshaw in town: Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively! The four poshest women in The Concrete Jungle are reportedly descending on box office once again, nearly a year after the follow-up to the wildly-successful Sex And The City Movie became the darling of the 2011 Razzies.
The suits at New Line Cinema have commenced talks to create a film version of Sex creator Candace Bushnell’s 2010 literary prequel, The Carrie Diaries — which chronicled the teen years of her plucky heroine as she came of age in early 1980s Connecticut — and Blake’s got first dibs on the role of Young Carrie, Australian glossy Grazia dished in a scoop that went viral on Monday.
SATC producer Michael Patrick King — who worked with series stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristen Davis, and Cynthia Nixon on the longrunning HBO comedy and two subsequent films — has already expressed interest in adapting the book for the big screen.
“There are no plans to bring SJP and the other girls back together in the old format,” a Tinseltown informant divulges. “The prequel is about breathing new life into the story and exploring Carrie’s first few months in NYC and the beginning of her relationship with an older man.”
Candace just wrapped up a second novel, titled Summer And The City, which follows 19-year-old Carrie’s move from suburbia to the City That Never Sleeps.
