Brad Furman has signed on to direct an as-of-yet-untitled biopic of former drug lord Pablo Escobar, says a story at The Hollywood Reporter.

The script for the project arrives from Matt Aldrich, author of the recently-sold spec script Father Daughter Time: A Tale of Armed Robbery and Eskimo Kisses, which Matt Damon has been rumored to both direct and star in.

Furman, who recently directed The Lincoln Lawyer will re-team with that film’s producer, Scott Steindorff for the Escobar film.

In real life, Escobar was the leader of a Colombian drug cartel in the 1970′s. Rising in power over the years, he was targeted by a coalition of Colombian police and military along with the United States’ DEA and CIA and was killed in 1993.

Both Joe Carnahan and Oliver Stone were recently involved with dueling Escobar biopics (entitled Killing Pablo and Escobar, respectively), but neither is currently in active development.
