‘Bridesmaids’ Cast: Oscar Presenters Despite Best Picture Snub

Just because “Bridesmaids” missed a Best Picture nomination on Tuesday morning doesn’t mean the cast can’t enjoy a little bit of time in the spotlight on Oscar Sunday. The cast of the hit comedy will appear at the 84th annual Academy Awards as presenters.

Kristen Wiig (nominated for Best Original Screenplay with co-writer Annie Mumolo), Melissa McCarthy (nominated for Best Supporting Actress), Rose Byrne, Ellie Kemper, Wendi-McLendon Covey and Maya Rudolph will take part in the Oscar telecast, though what award they’ll present — or clip they’ll introduce — remains unknown. Per the AMPAS press release, this will be the first Oscar appearance for sextet of leading ladies.

If it seems odd that the Academy would announce a group of presenters so soon after the nominations, consider that having “Bridesmaids” be part of the telecast was likely a top priority. After all, the film was one of the biggest hits of 2011, a factor that can’t be discounted when the only Best Picture nominee with over $ 100 million earned in box office receipts was “The Help.”
