Spearsy’s ready for her closeup — this time on Glee!
The pop songstress — who’s shown off her acting chops on the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother and in the 2002 coming-of-age drama Crossroads — will appear on an episode of the FOX musical-comedy dedicated to her 11-year career in music, Glee creator Ryan Murphy confirmed on Tuesday.
““I will give you a little scoop, which is that Britney will 100% be on the episode, which is exciting. She’s going to come and join us and do a couple scenes,” Murphy told syndicated radio program “On-Air With Ryan Seacrest” on Tuesday.
The episode, titled “Britney/Brittany,” is set to air Sept. 28 as part of the show’s second season.
Murphy said the Spears episode would feature several fantasy sequences in which the show’s characters — under anesthesia at the dentist — imagine how they can be like the pop star.
“They have fantasies of how they can be like her.”
We’re still not sure what role Brit herself will play in the episode, but Murphy quickly dispelled rumors that Matthew Morrison’s character, Mr. Scheuster, will shave his head in a parody of Britney’s 2007 emotional meltdown.
In fact, Britney-lovin’ Gleeks will be pleased to learn that the cast plans to go easy on the pop tart during next month’s eagerly-anticipated special.
“We are doing a Britney episode and people do have certain expectations because the show is sarcastic. But the Britney episode is so reverential about her, and it’s so kind and it’s about her music. It’s not about her personal life, and I think Britney Spears is essential to pop culture, and I want to say thank you for what you’ve done, and we’re encouraging you to continue to be doing as fantastic as you do. So that’s not true. We’re handling Britney with kid gloves,” Murphy explained. “I really admire what she’s done with her life and how she’s turned herself around.”
