Say hello to The Poor Man’s Ryan Seacrest. NBC late night host Carson Daly, who cut his broadcasting teeth as the first VJing host of MTV’s now-defunct video countdown show Total Request Live, will host The Peacock’s new singing competition, The Voice.

The latest addition to NBC’s primetime network is inspired by the Dutch talent show The Voice of Holland and boasts production credits by Survivor creator Mark Burnett.

Half American Idol, half X Factor, The Voice will feature a panel of four entertainers — who’ll serve as “celebrity coaches,” who can claim contestants they like as students, mentor them, and then pit their teams against one another. The coaches will hear contestants audition with their backs turned, so they will be judged strictly on the quality of their voices.

The grand prize winner will receive a grand prize of a recording contract and $100,000.

“I have a true appreciation for authentic, raw talent and The Voice is all about finding that,” Daly, 37, said in a statement. “Having worked in the music industry for many years, I am looking forward to hosting ‘The Voice.’ This is a show based strictly on vocal performance — giving all kinds of talented singers the opportunity to reach millions across the country,” added the Last Call with Carson Daly host, now in its 10th season.

“Carson is the perfect choice to host this exciting new series owing to his credibility, popularity and relevance in both the music world and social media,” said Paul Telegdy, NBC’s Executive Vice-President of Alternative Programming & Production.

NBC is eyeing a Spring 2011 premiere for The Voice. Any suggestions on potential celebrity coaches? We nominate Mariah Carey!
