It’s no secret — Charlie Sheen’s got issues — and for the first time, network executives at CBS are expressing a “high level of concern” about the troubled star.

Sheen has been in and out of the headlines since his 2009 Christmas arrest in Aspen, Colorado following a heated altercation with his now soon-to-be ex-wife Brooke Mueller. After spending much of 2010 in drug rehab, trouble found Charlie again last October when police were called to his suite at New York’s tony Plaza Hotel after a night of pay-for-play sex ended with Sheen trashing a luxurious suite and twentyspornstar Capri Anderson cowering in fear for her life in a nearby bathroom.

The incident prompted Anderson to lodge a sexual harassment suit against Charlie.

Though he’s the highest-paid actor on network TV, Sheen’s continued employment on the hit Monday night comedy Two and a Half Men has come under scrutiny in recent months. CBS’ President of Entertainment Nina faced a flurry of tough questions about just that during a press conference at the Television Critics Association’s Winter 2011 Session last week.

“We have a high level of concern and how could we not? On a very basic human level, concern, of course. This man is a father; he’s got children; he has a family… but you can’t look at it simplistically,” Tassler replied before defending CBS’ decision to keep Two and a Half Men on the air and Sheen as its star.

According to Tassler, CBS remains confident in Sheen’s ability to maintain a professional demeanor at work….even if he does spend his free time terrorizing pornstars.

“Charlie is a professional. He comes to work, he does his job extremely well,” the TV executive explained. “He certainly knows how we feel… he knows the level of concern that we have. Right now, the show continues to be as successful as it always is. Everyone is doing their job and things are continuing as planned.”
