Paging Dr. Drew! Five-time Grammy Award winner Christina Aguilera spent the night in a Los Angeles jail cell after she and boyfriend Matthew Rutler were arrested on driving charges just after 2:45 AM Tuesday.

Drama ensued when cops stopped over the luxury whip being driven by Rutler. After finding both parties basking in the haze of a drunken stupor, officials arrested Matt for suspicion of DUI. Aguilera was booked on a misdemenor charge of public intoxication at the West Hollywood Sheriff’s substation. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ that the five-foot-two-inch Aguilera appeared to be “extremely intoxicated” and was “unable to take care of herself.”

Even before tanking in her performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at last month’s Super Bowl, the “Fighter” songstress has been battling whispers that her drinking, as well as her whirlwind romance with Rutler, are out of control.

Whispers of a drinking addiction first began when the soon-to-be divorcee passed out intoxicated during the party of a Hollywood designer back in January. Concerned friends and colleagues saw the “Star-Spangled” blooper as further proof that Aguilera needs to get help to curb her excessive partying. But the petite powerhouse has threatened to fire any staffer who dare to tell her she’s partying too hard, those with knowledge of the situation tell In Touch Weekly.

“Christina’s drinking has some of her friends worried ….. She seems to be getting out of control, and her friends want her to get PROFESSIONAL help. The past few weeks, her partying has escalated ….. If she is drinking until she passes out, that’s NOT good”

Another informant adds: “They wanted to talk to her carefully about the issue, but they’re not going to because they are scared after she threatened to fire them. Her people desperately want this to come out so she will get help.”

Xtina, the mother of a three-year-old son named Max, will finalize her divorce from hubby of five years, Jordan Bratman, next month.
