Conscious robots are a growing threat in ‘Humans’ Season 2 (Exclusive)

Highlight on New Movie Released DVD

When “Humans” returned to AMC last week, a slowly acclimating Niska (Emily Berrington) was finally driven to distribute a new code on the synths’ global network, with the intention of creating life. With sentience and free will in the equation, confused and awakening robots are finding themselves in the dangerous position of choosing sides… And a new character, Dr. Morrow (Carrie-Anne Moss), is brought further into the belly of the corporate brain-trust with which she fund her own work.

Milo Khoury’s (Marshall Allman) establishment may have offered Morrow direct access to a sentient Synth — R.I.P., Artie (Sam Woolf) — to reverse-engineer these unexplained glitches, but it’s only a matter of time before the doctor’s secrets come to light: Remember “V,” the computer consciousness she’s hiding at her lab?

The Screener-exclusive video above gives us a taste of what’s to come in Monday’s (Feb. 20) new episode. It looks like Morrow’s tinkering for answers ended up destroying the poor bot — but undeterred, she requests another.

We can’t help but wonder whether destroying a conscious synth is yet to be considered murder — and what it even means. Is taking such drastic action a way of reminding themselves of their significance in the grander scheme of things? Or does this developing form of life remind them of their growing insignificance, in a post-singularity world?

Morrow and Milo may be aiming to take life away from these man-made creations, but that’s not an option for much longer. Once the creations in question have the ability to think and feel for themselves, it’s a declaration of war.

“Humans” Season 2 airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on AMC.
