***ROMAN POLANSKI CREATION*** Described by Polanski himself as his best film, Cul-de-sac draws heavily on the traditions of the Theatre of the Absurd and echoes of Beckett’s Waiting for Godot in both it’s themes and visual style. A wounded criminal and his dying partner take refuge at a beachfront castle. The owners of the castle, a meek Englishman and his willful French wife, are initially the unwilling hosts to the criminals. Quickly, however, the relationships between the criminal, the wife, and the Englishman begin to shift in humorous and bizarre fashion.

Absolutely…..A Classic. What a mix of characters! What a hilarious setting! Cinematic fruit pudding! Love the chickens! Roman Polanski…….a jewel in the crown of film making! Bravo!!!!!
@666goat1 Love this movie. First saw it on TV. It transforms the most mundane and quiet setting into a drama of the bizarre and tragically-comedic. And the actors are excellent. Everything is so unpredictable and nuts, it makes modern movies boring. They didn’t need colour or gore or gratuitous sex and violence to make it fun.
Makes me laugh how they make their captor a butler and then he says, “Kill a chicken? You must be joking, SIR.” LOL
