Rosario Dawson has landed the lead female role in director Danny Boyle’s ‘Trance,’ an-art-heist-gone-wrong film in which she will star opposite James McAvoy and Vincent Cassel, according to a report at Deadline.
‘Trance’ — Boyle’s followup to ‘127 Hours’ — will begin production in September. In January Boyle will stop work on the film to take on the directing chores for the opening ceremonies of next summer’s Olympics in London. When that’s over — in August 2012 — he’ll begin editing the film for a March 2013 release by Fox Searchlight.
Here’s the official synopsis:
An assistant at an auction house masterminds [an art] heist and teams up with a gang of thieves, but suffers a blow to the head and wakes up with amnesia. He is the only one who knows where the painting’s location is and after his continued failure to remember, the gang begins to suspect duplicity on his part and hire a female hypnotist to get into his brain.
McAvoy is set to play the assistant, Cassel will be the leader of the gang of thieves and Dawson will play the hypnotist, who Deadline says “develops an unusual relationship with both men.”
There’s no mistaking a Boyle film — the eclectic director puts his unique stamp on virtually everything he touches, from ‘Trainspotting’ to ’28 Days Later …,’ from ‘Millions’ to ‘Sunshine’ and ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ — so it will be interesting to see what he does with a heist drama. It’s too bad we have to wait so long to be put under his spell.
