It pays to have family members with deep pockets — unless, of course, you actually need money.

For all his millions, it seems these days, well-chiseled soccer ace David Beckham and his bounty of bucks are of little use to his 38-year-old sister, Lynne, who has been living off of unemployment benefits and public assistance since divorcing her husband earlier this year.

On Tuesday, Britain’s Daily Mail squealed that Lynne — a mother of three children (Georgina, 12, Freddie, 10, and Josh, 5) living in the UK — is receiving $255 a week from the government. While it’s worth mentioning that Lynne lives in a three-bedroom semi-detached home in Romford, Essex, which David bought for her in 1998, the newly-single mom reportedly has no other source of income aside what she receives from the government.

Geez, call us crazy, but what’s the point of having wealthy family members, if they can’t even help you stay off welfare? According to at least one report, Lynne’s been keeping her baby bro out of the loop when it comes to her financial problems: “David had no idea Lynne was on benefits. He bought her the house she lives in. He has always provided for her and her children. He has given her money and anything she needs, so he is clearly baffled and really quite upset.”

David, 35, is worth an estimated $195 million and earned a staggering $40 million last year alone.
