Did You Know You Can Stay at That Ridiculous House in ‘Ex Machina’?

Movie tourism is a big deal for a lot of cinema fans, with people making trips all over the world just to visit shooting locations and landmarks seen in their favorite films. Sometimes they can get some help from a map or an app or an official tour. When a spot used for a set is a hotel, that makes the stay so much easier. From California’s Hotel del Coronado of Some Like It Hot to Connecticut’s Yankee Peddler Inn of The Innkeepers, there are plenty of places you can stay the night and feel like you’re in the actual movie filmed there.

Now we can add the Juvet Landscape Hotel, which is seen in the new sci-fi movie Ex Machina as Oscar Isaac’s character’s secluded residence and A.I. research lab. Built in 2009 and located in the Vallstad valley of Norway, the place was already an attraction as much as a spot to sleep due to the stunning modern architecture and its relationship to the surrounding nature. Frommer’s described the views from your glass window walls as being “like watching an IMAX documentary from your bedroom.” Not all of the movie’s set is actually part of the hotel, and most of the actual hotel is not seen in the movie, but any Ex Machina fan is sure to recognize a lot once they arrive.

Of course, there are no robots, servants or experiments, but they should look into that amenity now, obviously. The creepy faces on the wall are also absent from the real location. But you can pretend you’re constantly being watched. You can also head out into nature and see the waterfall from the movie. And you could likely stage a little impromptu choreographed dance like the one in everyone’s favorite scene.

The Juvet hosts weddings and private events, so you could marry an A.I. or have a (small) A.I. convention there. The hotel appears to be hip to the attention the movie is bringing, as they’ve already hosted a special screening of Ex Machina last month and participated in contests where fans can win a trip to Norway and stay at the Juvet.
