Go on Hollywood, live dangerously and add another live-action adaptation of a princess fairy tale to the top of the pile. You so crazy! So far we’ve had the dreadful Tim Burton version of Alice in Wonderland, a bazillion upcoming versions of Snow White, and now there’s a Cinderella project in the works that has the Mickey Mouse studio eyeing Never Let Me Go director Mark Romanek. This retelling will be based on a script by The Devil Wears Prada’s Aline Brosh McKenna, and according to Deadline, the mouse house is making this one a big priority.
Hopefully Disney knows how to play their cards right. Romanek’s last encounter with a money-maker left him walking away from The Wolfman due to creative differences, which surrounded the film’s budget. Hopefully the animation powerhouse does better with Romanek — because frankly there could be worse choices for a ” … re-imaging of the classic tale where the prince is set for a politically arranged marriage, until the evil plan is threatened when the prince meets Cinderella.” It would make sense if the music video and One Hour Photo director was being courted to help put a darker, moody twist on the tale given his past filmography.
We don’t know much more about the project yet, but a deal is expected to happen soon. Are you looking forward to another princess story on the big screen, and is the Romanek the right guy for the job?
