“Sherlock” executive producer Steven Moffat would totally be up for a crossover special between the two shows. It’s just that everyone and everything else gets in the way.
Moffat made his interest in the crossover clear
at the “Doctor Who” premiere held in Cardiff, particularly if he could make it a special for Comic Relief. Unfortunately, the scheduling of just about everyone involved makes this pretty much impossible.
“Go speak to Cumberbatch, Freeman, Gatiss and Vertue, OK? They’re all in the way. I’m not the killjoy, it’s that lot,” says Moffat of his “Sherlock” stars and co-producers.
Still, even Moffat doesn’t think the crossover would go too well. “Mark [Gatiss] has got a point when he says that however good you imagine it, it would be better in your imagination than it would be if the two grand old egotists actually met,” Moffat explains. “They’d just both go off in opposite corners and sulk.”
The new season of “Doctor Who” premieres on BBC Aug. 23, while “Sherlock” Season 4 will return at an undetermined date.
