Donald Glover Will Be Lando Calrissian In The 'Han Solo' Movie

Donald Glover (Community, Magic Mike XXL) is one of those young actors that fans keep wanting to cast in everything. He’s funny, charismatic, handsome, quick witted and has that kind of boy next door air to him that Hollywood loves. Most notably there was a huge campaign for him to play Spider-Man, though obviously that ended up not happening (in live-action, at least). As soon as Disney officially announced their Star Wars prequel film about a young Han Solo, Glover’s name once again topped fan casting lists.

Not for Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich has that role), obviously, but for his old pal Lando Calrissian. The character, who we first met when he betrayed Han in The Empire Strikes Back, wasn’t even initially confirmed to be in the movie, but people were just hoping he’d show up at some point. After all, as far as the movies go, he’s one of the few friends Han had before he met the Skywalker gang. Lando’s inclusion made sense to fans and it apparently made sense to directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (21 Jump Street) as well. They’ve been casting for the role for a while now and they’ve finally landed on Glover as the younger version of Billy Dee Williams’ Lando.

How big of a part Lando will play still remains to be seen, as does the entire premise of the still untitled movie. All we know is that it’ll feature a young Han and a young Lando dabbling in the galaxy’s underworld. Were they smugglers together? Did Lando introduced Han to Chewie? Did Han buy Lando that sweet cape? We’ll find out at some point in 2018.
