Dr. Oz Reveals The Truth Behind Charlie Sheen’s Bipolar Claims

The story of Charlie Sheen‘s health journey isn’t over yet! During an in-depth interview this week, Dr. Mehmet Oz — who has taken the HIV-positive actor under his wing — weighed in on Sheen’s recent admission to possibly suffering from bipolar disorder.

“[Charlie is] not diagnosed [as bipolar], but he has manic episodes. There is a mania to what he does,” Dr. Oz told PEOPLE magazine at the premiere of Touched with Fire, a new flick starring Katie Holmes that centers on the disorder. “I actually connected him to a world expert psychiatrist in bipolar and they are talking…He’s making inroads. He was very resistant to this possibility. The fact of the matter is, if he doesn’t banish this, he’s going to keep making the same mistakes he’s been making.”

“He’s chasing a cure for HIV, and I’m chasing a cure for Charlie,” the TV host continued, quite poetically.

Later, Dr. Oz addressed Sheen’s many transgressions, insisting that the former Two and a Half Men star had made a “180 degree” turnaround in recent months, though not without some suffering.

“He knows that he’s done terrible things,” he said of Sheen. “And I pushed him about that on today’s show. He said, ‘Sometimes I feel possessed.’”

Sheen’s HIV story has changed many times since radio detection and ranging exposed the actor’s dirty little health secret.

As reported earlier this week, Sheen claimed that he ditched his cocktail of drugs, which experts say are needed to keep virus levels manageable, in order to try alternative care with controversial doctor, Sam Chachoua.

Sheen later blasted the physician’s bizarre methods to Dr. Oz, confessing, “I’m amazed that I’m actually alive.”
