In the Roberts Clan — which includes Oscar winner Julia Roberts and her niece Emma — top honors for the title of “Walking Tabloid Headline” would go to Julia’s estranged brother Eric. The Oscar-nominated actor, who also happens to be Emma’s dad, has joined the trouble-prone fourth season of VH1’s Celebrity Rehab with Dr Drew, the hit reality soap that shuffles drug-addled F-listers under one roof at the Pasadena Recovery Center to battle addiction under the watchful eye of a bespectacled Dr. Drew.
Eric, 54, has not confirmed what his addiction issues are, however the star has been collared on drug and domestic abuse charges at least three times since 1987, when he was arrested in possession of cocaine and marijuana. In fact, the actor’s substance abuse issues caused him to lose custody of a then-infant Emma in 1991.
“It’s not for anything serious. He’s not hooked on prescription meds or hard drugs or anything like that,” Roberts’ longtime publicist, Chuck Jones, remarked cryptically on Friday.
Roberts — who has starred in movies such as The Dark Knight and Fight Club — will join Janice Dickinson, Rachel Uchitel, Jeremy London, Frankie Lons, and Jason Wahler when Celebrity Rehab Season 4 premieres in 2011.
