Millennium Entertainment has provided ComingSoon.net with exclusive character posters from Richard Linklater’s upcoming dark comedy Bernie, reuniting the filmmaker with Jack Black for the first time since they made
School of Rock together back in 2003.
It’s based on the true story of Bernie Tiede, an affable 39-year-old mortician in a small Texas town, played by Black, who befriends an elderly widow (Shirley MacLaine) after the death of her millionaire husband. When she vanishes and Bernie seems to have more money than usual, the local authorities start to get suspicious. The screenplay, co-written by Linklater, is based on an article by Skip Hollandsworth published in Texas Monthly in 1998 called “Midnight in the Garden of East Texas,” which tells the incredible story of Tiede, who is still spending life in prison. Matthew McConaughey co-stars.
Bernie opens in select cities on April 27. You can watch the trailer by clicking here.
