Lady Gaga, Alicia Keys, and Kim Kardashian are among a host of celebrities giving up Twitter and Facebook for Key’s Keep a Child Alive charity. The gals, joined by fellow stars like Justin Timberlake and Usher, are all bidding farewell to various social networking portals in order to raise money.

Gaga, who has more than seven million Twitter followers and nearly 24 million Facebook fans has agreed to keep quiet, along with Kardashian, who is followed by over five million people on Twitter. The stars are abandoning the social networking websites as part of the “Digital Life Sacrifice” campaign. The charity campaign, organized by Keys and Keep A Child Alive president Leigh Blake, will see high-profile social networkers sign off this Wednesday, World AIDS Day, in a bid to raise money for families affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa and India.

The stars taking part — which also includes Jennifer Hudson and Ryan Seacrest — will only resume their online presence when the charity has raised $1 million. In fact, the participating celebs have already video taped their “last tweet and testament.” These videos will form a part of the advertisements, which will showcase the stars lying down in coffins as part of a “digital death.”

“It’s so important to shock you to the point of waking up. It’s not that people don’t care or it’s not that people don’t want to do something, it’s that they never thought of it quite like that,” says Keys.

“I have a feeling that Lady Gaga is going to raise it all by herself. She has more than 7.2 million followers on Twitter and nearly 24 million fans on Facebook. She’s got a very mobilized fan base and that’s beautiful to watch and she’s able to draw their attention to these issues that are very important, you know, and that people follow it and act,” says Blake.
