UPDATED 12/13/13: Only two days after Jason Clarke just about parked himself in the John Connor role in that new Terminator reboot, Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke (aka the Mother of Dragons) has been cast as John’s mother, Sarah Connor. Considering the two are close in age, the belief here is that this Terminator movie will feature a time-traveling human, and that will be Sarah — reuniting with an older version of her son John in a future where he’s leading a rebellion against a robot uprising. Arnold Schwarzenegger will also be back in some capacity, but of course he’ll be back. He said he’d be back. That’s his whole thing!
Check out our original story on Jason Clarke’s (no real-life relation, by the way) casting below. Note the other Clarke’s biggest competition was Brie Larson, who wowed critics this year in the terrific Short Term 12. Terminator: Genesis is due in theaters in July 2015.
12/11/13: You could tell Jason Clarke was about to break out in a big way when he delivered one of the most memorable performances in Zero Dark Thirty, and then followed it up with a big year during which he costarred in not one, but two huge summer movies (The Great Gatsby and White House Down). Next year he’s already lined up to appear in at least three movies, with one of them being the lead role in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Well, chalk up another big role in another famous franchise for Clarke, as reports today indicate the actor will play John Connor in the Terminator reboot, titled Terminator: Genesis, scheduled to hit theaters on July 1, 2015.
Not a whole lot is known about this Terminator reboot except that it’ll be directed by Thor: The Dark World‘s Alan Taylor and star Arnold Schwarzenegger in some capacity. Both John Connor and his mother Sarah Connor will figure prominently in the film, though they’re looking to cast a younger actress (Emilia Clarke and Brie Larson are apparently frontrunners) for Sarah, leading many to believe that this Terminator movie will take place in different time periods.
According to Deadline, the film will involve time-traveling into the future and that Schwarzenegger will once again play a cyborg, but further details are scarce. Clarke definitely brings action-movie chops to the role, and considering his age we imagine he’ll be playing an older version of Connor in the future, leading a resistance against the robot uprising.
