Do you have what it takes to be the next Chord Overstreet, Lea Michele, or Darren Criss?
A reality talent show inspired by FOX’s Emmy-nominated TV series Glee will premiere on The Oxygen Network in June, television industry snoops said this week.
The Glee Project will feature a select number of wannabe stars bursting into song and competing over several weeks to win a role on Glee. “FOX passed on the concept back in June, but after the smash sing-along series — which follows a group of spirited high school misfits who regularly belt out Top 40 hits, rock classics, and Broadway showtunes to the delight of viewers — netted an all-time ratings high and shattered The Beatles’ Billboard Singles record, Oxygen decided the show was worth running after all. Although 34,000 applications were submitted through MySpace earlier this year, the network has decided to make its final selections through open casting calls set for December and January in Chicago and Dallas.
- Dec. 18 and 19 (Chicago)
- Jan. 8 and 9 (Dallas)
Oxygen is looking for singers, actors, and dancers over 18 who can convincingly play a high school-aged teenager.
“Talented young men and women with strong vocal, acting, dancing abilities and big personalities! Musical theater experience is a plus, but not required,” reads a casting call issued by producers on Tuesday.
Production on The Glee Project begins next month. The premiere is expected to air in June.
