Highlight on New Movie Released DVD

To help with what feels like an interminable Droughtlander, the “Outlander” Season 2 collector’s edition DVD/Blu-ray set is here for fans and it is chock full of cool extras.

Screener can exclusively debut a clip of the behind-the-scenes featurette about creating Paris on a Scotland sound stage. Executive producer Ron Moore calls Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire’s (Caitriona Balfe) Paris apartment his “favorite set this season” and it’s no wonder — it boasted a two-story building that looked out into a real courtyard.

“The scale — it’s huge. I based it where each room was looking out onto a court, so the court had larger walls than the set itself. We built the whole thing up on to the second level so we could look from balconies, over looking and have scenes shooting back and forth,” says John Gary Steele, production designer.

The production team created all the furniture, tapestries and carpets themselves, plus they converted 12 electric chandeliers so that they would hold candles.

It was stunning for the actors to work in sets like these. “The Parisian apartment is a place of absolute beauty, I want to live there. We have doors going outside and you feel like you should be stepping into Paris and you don’t and you’re very upset,” says Balfe with a laugh.

Lionel Lingelser, who played King Louis XV, adds, “The first time when I arrive on the set was amazing. I just feel that I am in Versailles.”

The Season 2 DVD/Blu-ray set includes an excerpt from “Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone,” the upcoming ninth book in the “Outlander” series; a 32-page book featuring behind-the-scenes photos; multiple behind-the-scenes featurettes; a gag reel; and an in-depth discussion with author Diana Gabaldon about how the series has evolved over time.

The set is available digitally on Monday, Oct. 31 and hits shelves on Tuesday, Nov. 1. “Outlander” Season 3 returns in 2017 on Starz.
