‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Nanny Diaries: The awkward love triangle we’ve been waiting for all…

So I was supposed to have Thursday night (Sept. 29) off, but when I saw three missed calls from Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), I knew my plans of opening my evening watching “Drag Race” uninterrupted with a bottle of wine were off the table. When my boss mentioned I’d be looking after the kids during what sounded like the most awkward housewarming party of all time, I stuck that bottle of wine in Zola’s backpack before heading to Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) and Owen’s (Kevin McKidd) house.

In this aptly named episode “Catastrophe & the Cure,” the dinner party was the catastrophe, and — not to toot my own horn — I was the cure. Entering the house with the three adorable kiddies, Zola running to hug Auntie Amelia, Derek promptly hopping on Karev’s (Justin Chambers) lap, while baby Ellis spit up on Dr. Nathan Riggs (Martin Henderson) shirt, the tension — which couldn’t have been cut cleanly by even these surgeons’ knives — was instantly gone.

I could’ve taken the kids home earlier, but they all looked like such angels asleep in the guestroom that I decided to open my bottle of wine, nom on the leftovers in the kitchen and take a front-row seat for the evening’s drama. But then Karev’s patient had an emergency, Jo (Camilla Luddington) left and the failure of a party unfortunately quickly came to a close.

I thought I had kept (the weirdly psychic, based on her dreams about Meredith’s last-minute hookup) Maggie from going after Dr. Riggs … But then she did anyway. And ugh. My heart goes out to her, but what are we supposed to do?

If she only knew the real reason Dr. Riggs shut down her down was because he’s head over heels for sister Meredith — well. I’m not going to be the one to tell her, Meredith sure as heck isn’t going to tell her… But she is going to find out at some point, right? Yes. (I’m here to tell you that she finds out next week, as a matter of fact, and guess what: Things will be weird.)

If you thought that housewarming party was unbearable, things between Riggs and those Grey-Pierce sisters from different misters are going to make the halls of Grey-Sloan Memorial beyond awkward.

Neither Maggie nor Meredith are the type of women to let a man get between them: We all know that’s not the real issue here. Maggie feels like an idiot, and rightfully upset that Meredith has again been lying to her, in her casually suffocating way. And of course Meredith is frustrated because no matter what she says, we all know she has a major crush on Riggs. When Meredith asked for my advice, I told her “Hoes before bros,” which probably there was a better way to say it, but you know how intense she can be.

Getting sucked into all this drama had one up side: Being distracted from the fact that sweet horrible Alex is being charged with felony assault in the second degree, and his victim Dr. DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) is walking around the hospital looking like he just came back from a war. But I can’t say I care too much. The bottom line is that no man is worth losing your sister over — especially when that sister is the wonderful Maggie Pierce! — and so, Meredith eventually nodded in agreement. But the damage is done. To everybody. As usual.

“Grey’s Anatomy” airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
