Hindus have applauded supermodel-actress Helena Christensen (Allegro) for highlighting the sufferings of the villagers of southern Nepal due to climate change.

She reportedly recently spent three days with the villagers to have firsthand experience of affect on lifestyles due to climate change and took some pictures which reportedly will be shown at the United Nations Climate Change Conference being held from November 29 to December 10 in Cancun (Mexico).

Commending Christensen, prominent Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that Hollywood and other celebrities should not stay silent spectators to threatening ecological crisis faced by humanity and should take climate change seriously, reconnect to natural world and do something positive for environment. They should come out with their own unique environmental awareness campaigns as it was a “moral obligation”.

Rajan Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, stressed that human activities were causing change in earth”s climate, accumulation of greenhouse gases, and composition of the atmosphere; especially affecting the poor and vulnerable.

Christensen, 41, reportedly visited Nawalparasi district in Nepal and realized that flooding and unpredictable-erratic rainfall caused by climate change had affected the livelihood of villagers, caused death, and blocked access to healthcare.
