‘How to Get Away with Murder’ theory: Simon Drake is under the sheet

The biggest mystery of the fall TV season is who is under that freaking sheet on “How to Get Away with Murder.”

We’ve been hearing non-stop from the cast — who has been clued in on the identity of which character winds up dead for some time now — that the reveal for this particular mystery is heartbreaking and jaw-dropping since they’ve killed off a major character on the show.

Obviously, fans leapt to the very understandable conclusion that the body under the sheet belongs to this dearly departed character.

Call us crazy, but we’re beginning to wonder if the person under the sheet is actually one big red herring.

“How to Get Away with Murder” is well known for its crazy twists, be it Annalise’s (Viola Davis) last minute involvement in her husband’s murder or Frank’s (Charlie Weber) sharpshooting taking out Wes’ (Alfred Enoch) birth father. The show has a habit of purposefully leading viewers to believe one thing in order to throw them for a loop later.

That’s why we’re officially putting in the theory that Annalise’s upstart law-student, Simon Drake (Behzad Dabu) is actually under the sheet.

He’s been circling the group all season, but as of yet he’s been little more than an annoyance, even when you factor in the “KILLER” posters he’s been decorating the campus with. We’re not particularly emotionally attached to him at this point and neither are any of our characters: He’s an easy person to kill off without making it seem like a bloodbath — given that Laurel (Karla Souza) is still fighting for her life and a potential second person is set to die.

How Simon could wind up inside Annalise’s burning house with Laurel is still a complete mystery, but we can’t shake the suspicion that once we finally lift that sheet, someone we least expect will be underneath it. Given that most of the males left on the show are major characters, and thus predictable, Simon seems like the perfect candidate to die a horrific, fiery death.

Obviously, that still leaves someone else on the chopping block, but it would be just “How to Get Away With Murder’s” style to reveal that all our characters are actually alive and well, only to have one of them get hit by a speeding car, courtesy of Mahoney’s framed son.

Murder is never simple on this show, so we’re prepared for literally anything and everything.

“How to Get Away with Murder” airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
