If you must watch ‘The Great Indoors,’ watch it for Esther

“The Great Indoors” has aired two episodes so far on CBS and it’s still finding its footing — but it’s worth checking out, just for Esther (Deborah Baker Jr.) alone.

The show’s secret MVP, Esther is the magazine’s receptionist — and so far, she’s had about a dozen lines across two episodes. But a picture is forming of Esther’s awesome life, so we can’t wait to find out more about her.

First off, she is all of us…

In that she has some kind of unnamed issue that lets her carry an emotional support animal around sometimes. (But don’t let him hear you call him that.)

Secondly, her sex life is bumpin’!

In the pilot, she hooks up with Seb in his tent, which is his dwelling for 30 days straight with no break. Yes, it’s “dirty and smelly” but as Esther points out, “Is there any other way?” Get it, gurl.

Third, Esther’s home life is fascinating!

We find out in episode 2, “Dating Apps,” that Esther also has a boyfriend, and they’re in an open relationship — but there’s also drama at home. We demand to know more about this situation.

…We have so many questions. Why is the boyfriend’s boyfriend staying with you? Is he from out of town? Why does he cook and/or eat spaghetti all the time? How did a meatball get in a shoe — and whose shoe was it?

Esther’s life is crazy!

Finally, she’s not afraid of her own sass

She even saves the best for her boss, Jack Gordon (Joel McHale). That’s right, Esther — don’t take any guff.
