Twister is a film about a team of scientists who are trying to save lives by figuring out how to more accurately predict tornadic behavior. To do this, they have to drive into tornadoes in an attempt to get one to suck up their high tech tracking equipment. Forget the fantastic cast that movie assembled, it endures so well because it’s essentially an underdog, man vs nature story where the heroes are scientists.
Don’t expect that from Into the Storm, a new found footage movie from Final Destination 5 director Steven Quale about a town that gets torn to hell and back during a single day when it’s “ravaged by an unprecedented onslaught of tornadoes.” The story is then “told through the eyes and lenses of professional storm chasers, thrill-seeking amateurs, and courageous townspeople.”
Maybe this will be a commentary on the modern YouTube age and people’s stupid desires to capture everything and anything on video so they can become reality stars. Or maybe it’s just an excuse to show a small American town getting destroyed by an impossible amount of tornadoes. Either way, if you want to just see tornadoes rip apart people’s lives and cause an insane amount of destruction, Into the Storm looks like it’ll fit the bill.
