We’ve long suspected Kanye West has a sense of humor buried somewhere between his ego and his seemingly-endless battles with pre-menstrual syndrome. He finally proved it last week, when he poked fun at himself and Britney Spears on Twitter.
The rapper was beaten to the top spot on the iTunes chart by Spears’ dance track “Hold it Against Me.” Rather than throwing a tantrum — similar to the fit he pitched when MTV enlisted Britney and not him to open the 2008 Video Music Awards — Kanye jokingly referenced his infamous beef with Taylor Swift and conceded defeat via Twitter, telling the world he was gonna let her “be #1″ but his new single “H.A.M,” featuring Jay-Z, was still “one of the best songs of all time.”
After Britney Fans had a coronary, West insisted that the comment was in good fun and not designed to hurt the pop star’s feelings.
“When I said the comment about Brittney I was giving her props for being #1 not dissing her at all! How can you ‘let’ someone be number one??!! That was the whole joke!!! I know intelligent people know this so bear with me, (sic)” he explained. ”But stop making it seem that my aim is to hurt or down people! That’s just not my style! As pop stars we’re all in this shit together! We on the inside of the TV!”
West insisted that he would not let the controversy bother him, adding: “Just saw that MSNBC said I tried to start a twitter war with Brittany….This shit takes the air out my lungs sometimes from blogs to news reports… enough already!!! All I do is focus on my work.If you don’t give em a story they just make one up. I’m just trying to focus & stay creative! Keep bringing dope shit to the world!”
