Kathryn Bigelow’s SEAL Team 6 film — about the real-life mission to kill Osama bin Laden — doesn’t yet have an official title or a cast, but it does have a release date.
Sony Pictures has set an October 12, 2012 release date for the film, which not only puts it right before the presidential election, but in excellent positioning for awards season.
The project, which reteams Bigelow with ‘Hurt Locker’ writer Mark Boal, was originally titled ‘Killing Bin Laden,’ when that was still a fictional premise. After an elite Navy team succeeded in killing the world’s number one terrorist, Boal’s script became an extremely hot property. He immediately began updating his script’s third act to reflect actual events.
Details have been kept top secret so far, but Australian actor Joel Edgerton, soon to be seen in ‘Warrior,’ is rumored to be among the cast.
