Kathy Griffin is increasing her private security detail at public appearances throughout the remainder of the month after her poorly received jokes about Bristol Palin at VH1′s annual Divas event ended in jeers from US troops.
Apparently, conservative dingbats are scarier than they look.
“The Palin Family has a unique following of people who either love or hate them. After the remarks, Kathy is worried about her own security and is taking extra precautions to make sure she is safe,” informant types told PopEater’s Naughty But Nice Column on Tuesday.
Despite booing from the audience, Griffin roasted Palin’s stint on Dancing With the Stars while hosting VH1 Divas Salute the Troops earlier this month.
“She gained like 30 pounds a week, I swear to God. She’s like the white ‘Precious,’” she quipped to a hearty chorus of boos.
Griffin also called Palin “the only contestant in the history of the show to actually gain weight.”
Palin, 20, released a statement dissing Griffin’s outburst, but those close to the My Life on the D-List star remain concerned for her safety.
“Kathy is a very strong woman, but we are worried,” a friend of Griffin’s said. “All it takes is one nut job to do something stupid. Her extra security is just a precaution until all this blows over.”
On a lighter note, Kathy’s been invited back to CNN for more on-air swearing and inappropriate humor this New Year’s Eve.
Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin will return to New York City’s Times Square for the fourth year running to co-host the news network’s coverage of the New Year’s Eve celebration on Dec. 31, from 11 PM to 12:30 AM.(ET). As you may recall, during last year’s NYE celebrations, Griffin dropped an F-bomb on the air, which caused a stir among CNN suits and prompted rumors that she’d been banned from the network.
