Newly surfaced footage of CBS anchorwoman Katie Couric warming up during the 2008 Republican National Convention seems to show the host making fun of former Republican governor Sarah Palin and her family.

“Where the hell do they get these names?” Couric says on the tape after mentioning Sarah Palin’s youngest son, Trig, and her oldest, Track. Katie also chuckles over the pronunciation of Wasilla, Palin’s hometown

The video was shot weeks before Couric’s terse interview with Palin, which left detractors convinced that Republicans were prepared to put a lightweight second-in-line to the highest office in the land. (The same interview where Sarah failed to name a single major publication that she reads on a regular basis.) While the footage will likely fuel Palin’s already bitter distaste for Couric, CBS downplayed the two-year-old tape in a statement Wednesday:

“It must be a slow news day for this video to be getting so much attention,” the statement read.
