King-Kong Prequel ‘Skull Island’ Announced, Plus: First Look At ‘Crimson Peak’ and Michael Mann’s ‘Black Hat’

Legendary, the production company behind Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy as well as many other fan favorites, just held their presentation at Comic-Con and it included all of the expected projects like Duncan Jones’ Warcraft and Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak, but they also had a few surprises. Gareth Edwards showed up to confirm he’d be directing Godzilla 2 while teasing what monsters would appear in it. Michael Mann even stopped by to talk about his hacking movie Blackhat, starring Chris Hemsorth.

And then, just as it seemed like Legendary was done showing off, they revealed one last piece of footage no one was expecting, which ended up being a teaser trailer for a King Kong origin story called Skull Island. (Note: The image above is from Peter Jackson’s King Kong; we just don’t have any official image from Skull Island yet.)

There is no director, writer, or cast announced for Skull Island, but it did include the release date of November 4, 2016. And of course with Godzilla 2 in the works, it’s already fueling speculation that the studio will be building towards an inevitable King Kong vs. Godzilla movie. Don’t hold your breath for that just yet. and in the mean time, take a look at what few images of the above projects Legendary is sharing with the non-Comic-Con public.
