‘Lucifer’: Is Amenadiel dying?

db-woodside-lucifer-fox

We may have been mildly worried about Amenadiel (D.B Woodside) after “Lucifer’s” Season 2 premiere, but now we’re full-on panicked.

After Amenadiel’s brush with a demon blade last year, we figured he was all healed up by the last feather Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt) kept from Lucifer’s (Tom Ellis) wings. Now though, it appears Amenadiel isn’t quite as healthy as we were led to believe.

His powers have been on the fritz, which is worrying enough, but now we know that his wings are also in bad shape, almost falling apart from the looks of things. We speculated that his newfound weakness might have been because of his love for Maze — in the same way that caring for Chloe has made Lucifer mortal — but now we think there could be something darker going on here.

What on Earth could be slowly killing an angel?

Perhaps the better question is what in heaven could be killing an angel? There are many, many ways this scenario can work itself out, but the one that makes the most sense is that Amenadiel’s sickness is coming from on high.

After all, God seems like a good suspect for a being capable of wounding an angel, and there is the matter of Lucifer’s broken deal with his dad.

The wayward devil has decided not to return his mother to hell as promised after hearing her side of the story regarding his banishment from heaven. Mom is definitely manipulating him if her smirky look to the sky is any indication, which can only spell bad things head.

The last thing Lucifer should be getting involved in is an eons-old grudge match between an all-powerful goddess and her ex. Not to mention, Lucifer’s dad is seeming more and more like the tyrant Lucifer always makes him out to be.

If he was willing to kill Lucifer for rebelling all those years ago, who’s to say he wouldn’t smite Amenadiel as payback for Lucifer’s broken promise? If that’s the case, it might come down to Lucifer choosing between his beloved mommy and his dying brother.

“Lucifer” airs Mondays at 9 p.m ET/PT on FOX.
