Mariah Carey is a goddamn national treasure

The internet has it all wrong. No, Mariah Carey’s career wasn’t the final casualty of the celebrity bloodbath that was 2016. On the contrary. Mariah Carey crushed her New Year’s Eve performance as only Mariah Carey can.

That’s right, the victory belongs to Mariah. Check and mate.

Yes, during her “Dick Clark’s Ryan Seacrest’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” performance live from Times Square on a chilly New York City night, Mariah seemed to fall victim to technical difficulties, or totally forgot the words to her own song – or just decided she didn’t care to be bothered to keep lip syncing any longer.

Either way, is that a woman that looks fazed to you?! Nope, not even a little.

It wasn’t exactly an Ashlee Simpson “Saturday Night Live” lip sync fail-inspired hoe down… because Mariah doesn’t hoe down. How dare you.

Instead, a totally unruffled Mariah let her backup dancers keep doing their thing through one song, and ultimately most of a second song, before she decided she’d had enough, then flipped her hair with a sorta smile, telling the millions stuffed into Times Square, and the viewers at home, essentially, “You’re welcome.”

“Guess it doesn’t get any better than this.”

God bless you, Mariah Carey. It really doesn’t.

Your move, 2017.
