The worst-kept secret in Hollywood is out of the bag: Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are expecting their first child together — conceived naturally, thank you very much — early next year.
“Yes, we are pregnant, this is true!”a beaming Mariah confirmed in an interview with Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush Thursday. “It’s been a long journey. It’s been tough because I’ve been trying to hold on to a shred of privacy.”
Carey says she actually was pregnant two years ago right after her quickie wedding to Nick, 30. The couple miscarried a month later.
“It was really sad,” says Mariah, 41. “It kind of shook us both and took us into a place that was really dark and difficult. When that happened… I wasn’t able to even talk to anybody about it. That was not easy.”
Proud papa-to-be Nick says the devastating experience brought the couple closer.
“The greatest gift on earth is a child,” Nick says. “We’ve had names picked out from the first day we met and we want to stay true to that.”
The baby is due in the Spring of 2011.
