Marvel Bits: 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Face a Crazy New Creature, Plus: Fresh 'T…

If you’re going to call a group of heroes the Guardians of the Galaxy, you’d do well to give them something pretty serious to guard against. Enter this giant, tentacled monster that looks like the Sarlacc pit from Star Wars hooked up with the Kraken from the Clash of the Titans remake.

James Gunn shared the concept art on his Twitter account, where he later clarified that this big bad is called an Abilisk. A quick search for Abilisk in reference to Marvel comics doesn’t reveal much, so this may be a creation of Gunn’s for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Either way, it looks incredible and we can’t wait to see how the team – particularly Baby Groot – take it down.

Oh, and if you’re worried about them hanging out in space without helmets on (which didn’t go so well in the first movie), the fight isn’t actually in space. That’s just the night sky.

From Guardians we head to Thor: Ragnarok, which is currently filming in Australia and is now the source of two interesting rumors. The first is that Doctor Strange will make an appearance in the movie at some point. That tidbit comes by way of an image tweeted from the set of Hemsworth holding a business card with Strange’s address on it. The image was presumably approved by Marvel, so either it’s a very sly tease for fans or director Taika Waititi is just straight up messing with fans.

Speaking of Waititi, the second Thor: Ragnarok rumor says that he’s apparently asked former Devo singer Mark Mothersbaugh to write the score. That would be incredibly cool, if true. Ragnarok is said to be a big cosmic road trip movie, which would slide in nicely with Mothersbaugh’s sensibilities.

After all, this is the new official logo for the movie. That looks like something that should have some ’80s synth involved, right?

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters on May 5, 2017. Thor: Ragnarok comes out a few months later on November 3, 2017.
