Conan OBrien Bandleader Leaving Max Weinberg, Conan O’Brien Bandleader, Won’t Follow Team Coco To TBS

Max Weinberg, Conan O’Brien’s bandlander and sidekick for the past 17 years, will not be riding Team Coco to TBS when Conan moves to his new home on basic cable on Nov. 8.

O’Brien and Weinberg, who led Conan’s orchestra during the comic’s tenures with NBC’s Late Night and The Tonight Show, have mutually agreed to end their partnership. Rumors that Weinberg would not be continuing his gig with Conan began circulating when the drummer was the lone band member not to tour with the comedian on his summer comedy tour.

“Max has been a huge part of my life for the past 17 years and he is an incredible band leader and musician. I hope he can find time to stop by the new show, sit in with the band, and pretend to find my monologue funny,” Conan told fans in a brief statement on Monday.

Weinberg — who is also the drummer for Bruce Springsteen’s E-Street Band — said his time with O’Brien and crew has been “a deeply rewarding experience” and that he does “look forward to dropping by.”

Conan debuts on TBS Nov. 8. Weinberg will be replaced by longtime Conan Band guitarist Jimmy Vivino.
