A misogynistic, racist rant featuring actor Mel Gibson hurling vicious insults at the mother of his youngest child surfaced on the web on Friday afternoon, and the latest embarrassment in a career filled with high and lows is already having devastating consequences for Gibson: He’s been dropped by William Morris Endeavour Entertainment.

(Somebody cue the laugh track!)

Earlier this week, the agency’s boss Patrick Whitesell informed the actors’ representatives that he would no longer be represented by WME. The news came on the heels of reports that Mel had been recorded making racist, violent comments aimed at Oksana Grigorieva, a Russian singer who mothered Mel’s eighth child, Lucia, eight months. Gibson was also heard admitting to striking Grigorieva as she held the child during a dispute in January; that incident has prompted a domestic violence investigation by the Los Angeles Police Dept.

William Morris Endeavour (WME) partner Ari Emanuel had previously expressed hostility towards Gibson after the actor made anti-Semitic remarks and made remarks implying skepticism about the Holocaust following his arrest for DUI in 2006.

Accoridng to a scoop from The Hollywood Reporter, several studio executives have said the most recent disclosures about Mel’s temper — and his personal views — have made the troubled actor too untouchable in the industry.

“I’d rather get engaged to Lindsay Lohan than have anything to do with him,” one studio chief was quoted as saying.
